Economic Impact of Non-Revenue Water on WASPA Utilities

Water loss is a severe financial drain on Water Service Providers (WSPs). When NRW levels are high, utilities face a double financial penalty: they incur 100% of the chemical, electrical, and operational costs to treat and pump the water, but receive 0% of the billing revenue. By gathering the sector to lower NRW below the regulatory target of 25%, WASPA aims to make local utilities financially sustainable and “bankable” enough to attract serious commercial investment.
